SA Housing & Faith Community Collaborative

Who We Are

The SA Housing & Faith Community Collaborative is a growing band from San Antonio faith communities, nonprofits, community groups, and civic organizations that are united by their desire for everyone to have adequate, affordable housing.

We hope you will join us.

By the Numbers

95,000 Bexar County households do not have housing options

28,000 additional affordable housing units are needed

~3,500 acres of unused or underutilized property are owned by Greater San Antonio faith communities—enough for many new affordable housing units.

1 faith community’s involvement in this initiative could impact families in profound ways.

DIT Consultation

We aim to address the challenge faced by churches and community organizations that possess land but require assistance in exploring alternative development options.

Who qualifies?

1. Organizations with vacant land or buildings.

2. Have explored alternative government and nonprofit programs listed on SACRD.ORG. Please note that our capacity is limited, so we may not be your first point of contact.

3. Willingness to develop a community-oriented or affordable housing project, such as single-family homes, multi-family units, or transitional shelters.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

1. DIT Construction PBC, which stands for Do-It-Together, aims to address the issue of over 3000 acres of vacant land owned by congregations and community organizations in San Antonio that lack the resources for development.

2. DIT Construction PBC offers personalized consultations to understand your goals and collaboratively create a plan of action.

3. If you decide to pursue affordable housing, DIT Consultation provides free consulting services, including design and project management, to support the development process.

How much will this cost?

1. Cost of Government permit fees and 3rd party services like dumpster rentals, needed labor that did not volunteer. These costs are reviewed with the client before spending.

2. DIT Construction manages our construction projects at no cost and gathers volunteer contractors.

Current project

We are currently assisting a church on the east side of San Antonio in developing a transitional facility for children with mental disabilities who are aging out of foster care. This large-scale project involves three phases: remodeling the administrative building, establishing a community garden and recreational area, and constructing the transitional facility. To expedite the project and reduce costs, we are collaborating with SA Housing & Faith Community Collaborative to conduct fundraising efforts and gather volunteers. Our current volunteer support includes DIT Construction PBC and The Muscle M&D Demolition And Junk Removal. We are in need of electricians, plumbers, and HVAC professionals who can contribute their labor to this project.
