What this resolution does is establish a commitment that the City of San Antonio will uphold the tenant rights already on the books. It also points to the weak enforcement mechanisms in regards to renter rights so council can look to filling them with future ordinances.

This has been a combined effort with City Staff, TOP, Texas Housers, TRLA, and My City Is My Home.

Tenants Bill of Rights that will protect these basic rights:
1. The right to safe and accessible housing
2. The right to freedom from discrimination and retaliation
3. The right to fair compensation and restorative justice,
4. The right of tenants to organize and bargain.
Most importantly, the Tenants Bill of Rights would institute measures of accountability for landlords who refuse to acknowledge these rights.
